The land of the rising sun... Anyone who wants to travel to Japan will undoubtedly have the intention to see more than just the fascinating capital. There is too much to discover in the country to limit you to one location. During your trip through Japan you should definitely visit Kyoto. In the old capital you will find hundreds of temples and shrines and you will meet the traditional, graceful Geisha girls. Almost nowhere will you be received as hospitably as in this city.

During your trip through Japan, be amazed by the amazing contrasts and discover Japanese culture, combining influences from both Europe and North America with Asian elements. Japan is the perfect country to plan your next trip to. The diversity of this country, combine this with the excellent Japanese cuisine and the shy smile of the locals will remain in your memory for the rest of your life!

  • Plan your trip on time, especially if you want to travel in the most popular seasons (spring and autumn). Try to avoid the Japanese holiday periods because of the crowds: Golden Week (1st week of May), Obon (mid-August) and New Year (1st week of January).
  • The cities in Japan are huge, so plan enough time to visit the cities. Certainly for a city like Tokyo you need several days to see everything properly, but there is also a lot to see in the old capital of Kyoto. This city is smaller than Tokyo, but also here you can easily spend 2 or even 3 days.
  • We would suggest that you visit 3 hotels/cities. From these places, organise day trips to other cities if you want.
  • If you want something special, stay a night in a ryokan, this is a traditional Japanese hotel. Usually these hotels also have an onsen (hot water bath) where you can relax. Also enjoy delicious Japanese meals during your stay.
  • Be sure to take a ride on the famous shinkansen (high-speed trains). These trains run a maximum of 320 km per hour, but the most remarkable is that the trains run on time to the second. Buy a JR Pass here. With this pass you can take any train you want.
  • On the islands where the train network is less extensive and the roads are less busy, such as on the islands of Hokkaido and Shikoku, you can rent a car and drive yourself. You then have the freedom to stop wherever and whenever you want.
  • If you want to end your trip through Japan on a beautiful beach, Okinawa is an excellent choice. These islands lie south of Japan and extend from Japan to Taiwan. There is a subtropical climate here which makes the temperature pleasant throughout the year.
